Respondents are most often invited by email. The email invitation, which can be personalized, contains a web address and, if desired, a password to allow entry to the web survey. 

A series of qualifying questions can be asked to ensure that the respondent qualifies for the questionnaire. If they do not, the survey can skip to the end.
